Vintage Tutorial: Shailene Woodley Makeup

Hi guys!

I've been thinking it might be a cool idea if I were to have a segment that ran every week on this blog and so I was trying to decide what segment that should be on. I thought that I love vintage makeup and hair and so I would do a tutorial on a vintage look every Friday to show what tips I've picked up over the years.

This look is actually also a Shailene Woodley tutorial, so if you enjoy it please remember to share it and comment down below!

Kaya Scodelario Makeup Tutorial

Hi guys!

I'm back with another celebrity makeup tutorial, this time it is inspired by the gorgeous Kaya Scodelario, best known for her performance as Effy on the popular British TV show 'Skins'. Please keep reading if you would like to see how I recreated the above look.

Look of the day: Vamp Glamour

This look is perfect for a big night out or special occassion! If you want to know how I created this look, carry on reading!

1. Moisturise! I love the Simple brand personally :)

2. Prime your face ready for makeup and conceal away any blemishes you may have. I chose to use my GOSH Velvet Touch Primer, Collection 2000 conceal stick, MAC creamy concealer in Warm Ivory and Collection 200 Cover and Conceal liquid stick in Fair.

3. Contour and highlight. I thought that for this look, highly defined cheekbones and jawline would work perfectly as it would give that extra sharpness and edge. Therefore, I contoured down my cheeks and sides of my nose to give a defined effect. I think that the ways I like to contour my face look like a backwards 'C' from my cheekbones to my forehead. See the above picture for a better understanding of what I am trying to explain! I also highlighted across the tops of my cheekbones and middle of my nose. I used my Zoeva Face Shape brushes to contour and highlight.

4. Cover your face in foundation. I used my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation in number 2.

5. I like to use two powders - one a little darker and one a bit lighter to contrast eachother. I use the darker one around the edge of my face and I just dust the lighter across my t-zone. I don't put on much powder because I still like my face to have a bit of a natural glow to it.

6. I like to put a little more bronzer on to contour my cheekbones into looking a little more defined. I use an angled face brush to create a defined look. I then dusted a tiny bit of my Bobbi Brown blush across the apples of my cheeks to add a bit of colour to my face. I used my Real Techniques blush brush as an applicator.

7. This is the difference between one finished eyebrow and one not started on yet. I used my Too Faced Bulletproof Brows to fill in my eyebrows. For this look, I wanted my eyebrows to stand out more than I usually do. Therefore, I filled them in a little darker and a little thicker than I normally would.

8. Prime your eyes for makeup.

9. I applied no. 1 across the entirety of my eyelid, no. 2 from the outer corner of my eyelid into the middle of my eyelid, no. 3 close to my lash line and in the outer third of my eyelid. I then used my Zoeva pigment in Expensive Black with my Lancome fluffy brush to create a smokey eye effect. I used all shimmery or glittery eye shadows to really get the glamour into this glamorous look.

10. I used my Bourjois Mega Liner to create a dramatic flick and my Zoeva graphic black eyeliner to line my waterline.

11. I then applied mascara to my eyelashes to create long, dark and thick looking lashes. The mascaras I used where: Max Factor's Wild Mega Volume, Topshop's Doe Eyed Lashes, Lancome's Hypnose Star and Charlotte Tilbury's Full Fat Lashes.

12. Lastly, I used my favourite lipstick called 'Vogue' by Lord & Berry and to finish the look off, I put on a deep red lipgloss to create a shiny colour. I think this pulls the whole look together and really plays on the 'vamp' side to this look.

Do you guys like this look? What should I try next?

The Makeup Tag!

I saw this post on the lovely Anu's blog and thought it was a really fun tag so decided I would do this for my 500 Twitter followers celebration! Without further ado, here is my makeup tag:

1. What Foundation Do You Use?
Have just finished the last pump of the amazing Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation in colour number 2. Funnily enough, I actually bought this foundation after seeing Lily Pebbles write about it on her blog. Many of my makeup purchases come from recommendations of other beauty bloggers! :)

2. How About Concealer?
I actually have many concealers that I use on a daily basis as I have incredibly dark circles under my eyes and a string of acne scars down my cheeks that I can find quite difficult to properly conceal. In my 'everyday makeup box' I have my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Warm Ivory, Collection 2000 Coverstick in number 1 and MUA Cover and Conceal wand in Fair. I want quite a heavy coverage when using concealer so these three really do the trick when trying to hide my insecurities.

3. What do you think of Fake Eyelashes?
I think false lashes are great if you are going out somewhere at night and want a long lasting 'big eyes' effect as sometimes mascara can come off over time. Also, false lashes are needed sometimes if you are doing a certain celebrity makeup tutorial or if you are feeling lazy and want a quick boost from your eyes. However, I don't think they look good when worn in the day time or when going out somewhere casual. There is a time and a place in my opinion!

4. What Brand Of Mascara Do You Use?
Much like how I am with my concealers, I use a variety of different mascaras! The few I am loving at the moment include Max Factor's Wild Mega Volume, Topshop's Doe Eyed Lashes, Lancome's Hypnose Star and one that I bought after Zoe from Zoella showed it off in one of her videos. It is Charlotte Tilbury's Full Fat Lashes and it has quickly become a favourite of mine in my makeup kit. I personally don't like clumpy looking lashes and this mascara seems to pull apart lash from lash and lengthen each eyelash without any clumps at all! It is perfect for me.

5. Sephora or Mac?
I would probably have to say MAC as I have got a few of their products but hardly any Sephora products. I currently love the deep red MAC lipstick in shade 'Diva'. It is very sexy!

6. What Make Up Tools Do You Use In Application?
I have recently found myself picking up more and more Real Techniques brushes when I'm in Boots and have completely fallen in love with the range! I use their expert face brush and blush brush daily. I also recently bought a few Zoeva brushes as I had heard very good things from Zoella's channel about them and so I thought I would try them out for myself. It's early days still but I am very impressed so far!

7. Do you use Make Up Base/Eyeshadow primer for the eyes?
I use Gosh's Velvet Touch Foundation Primer for the face and their Prime'n Refresh Illuminating Eye Roll-on for the eyes.
8. What is your Fave Eyeshadow/Colour/Shade?
I have very recently changed from pretty much always doing a gradient effect from cream to dark brown on the eyes to now doing a very pretty pink shimmer all over the eyes as I fancied a bit of a mix up!

9. What do you think of Pigment Eyeshadows?
Have just bought some amazing Pigmented Eyeshadows from Zoeva and have found that they are very easy to apply if you have  the right kind of brush (I prefer my Lancome fluffy brush) and leave a long lasting colour on your eyes all day!

10. What is your Fave Lipstick?
This differs every day! For the day time, I would say that I really like B.'s 104 Cupcake colour in a very soft pink, whereas at night I would prefer to go with a dark red lipstick. This is usually my MAC 'Diva' lipstick or my Lord & Berry lipstick in Vogue.

11. What is your Fave Blusher to use?
I have just purchased a new blusher from Bobbi Brown and love it so much already! It is a very dusty pink colour called Nude Pink number 29 and it is so great because you can build up the colour with it. With some blushers, if you put too much on your brush, there's no turning back really and it is hard to not look like a china doll for the rest of the day. But this Bobbi Brown blusher comes out so gently with each stroke that it is easy to see when you have the exact right shade applied.

12. Do you like drugstore Make Up?
Of course! Drugstore makeup is where my obsession with makeup started and I will always be true to it! A lot of the time you can get makeup just as good from drugstores as you could at a specialist shop!

13. Name a Make Up crime you hate?
One word: eyebrows. I have been subject to committing the makeup crime of having un-natural looking eyebrows myself and I am so ashamed! Never again will I fill them in too dark! I have actually untagged myself from all the pictures on Facebook from the time where I still wasn't quite sure how to do a realistic eyebrow!

14. Do you like colourful shades of Make Up (Lipstick, Eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
Apart from pink, I don't really go for colours with my makeup. I usually use tones of varying browns, blacks, greys or creams with the exception for pink lipstick or now with a subtle pink eyeshadow.

15. If you could leave the house with just One Make Up Item what would it be?
Mascara. I think with a bit of mascara, a person's whole face just looks so much healthier!

16. Could you leave the house without any Make Up on?
Yes of course! Whilst I love trying different types of makeup and feeling pretty on a night out when I've done my makeup all nicely, I have tried really hard over the past few years to feel confident in my own skin and so yes, I would go out without makeup on if I was feeling a bit lazy or just meeting up with a few friends.

17. In your opinion what is the best Make Up Line?
This is tough for me because I don't just use one brand's products, I have an array of many different brands! Therefore I don't really have a favourite makeup line, but favourite products from all different lines!

18. What do you think of Make Up?
Love it! I love to watch videos of the really talented makeup artists on YouTube who can literally transform themselves into looking like a completely different person just by using makeup. I think it's fascinating and would love to be that skilled! However, just for me I love that I can make myself feel a little bit more confident by sticking on some eyeliner and a bit of lip gloss. It's really quite empowering when I think about how I can take control over my own anxieties and help myself to be in a better mood just by doing something I love. :)

I tag Kelsey from http://www.kelstagram.com/ and the lovely girls from http://darlingbedaring.com/ to do the tag next!

Pay Day Haul - MAC, Bobbi Brown, Topshop and Boots

My final payday came round two days ago and it is safe to say that I have left my job with one last huge spending spree. Reckless? Perhaps. Worth it? Definitely.

1. H&M Black Crochet Dress - £19.99. I think I might wear this dress next week when my friends and I go out to a local pub/bar. Pretty yet understated!

2. Pull and Bear Yellow Ribbed Sweatshirt - £25.99.

3. New Look Checkered Long Jacket - £29.99. Possibly my favourite purchase from this haul!

4. Pull and Bear Striped Print T-shirt - £12.99.

5. New Look Black Ripped Jeans - £24.99.

6. L'Oreal Fiberology - £6.99. Marketed to people with thin hair, it is supposed to add volume to your hair and make the strands thicker.

7. Primark Tartan Scarf

8. H&M Gold Leaf Necklace - £3.99. I am loving the look of 'layered' or 'tiered' necklaces recently and so this long chain can be the longest necklace of the tier.

9. MAC Pro Longwear Paint in Chilled on Ice - £15. A very pretty, glimmery pink colour.

10. Bobbi Brown Blusher in No. 29 'Natural Pink' - £19. Light and pretty, this blush is easy to apply as you can layer it to make the shade you would like instead of getting a darker colour which can sometimes get out of control when applying directly to the cheeks.

11. Topshop Doe Eyed Mascara - £10

12. Topshop Lipstick in 'Saint' - £8. A natural pale pink colour, perfect for a casual day out with friends.

13. Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in Clear and Candy Gloss - £9 each

14. H&M Gold Ring Necklace - £1.99

15. Vintage Cosmetic Company Large Powder Brush - £17.50. A-MAZ-ING! Huge, fluffy and soft, this brush has quickly become my new obsession. I love how large it is and how much of a natural cover you can get while using it.

16. Real Techniques Blush Brush - £19.99. I think it might be a combination of this brush and the above Bobbi Brown blusher, but when I did my makeup last night for the first time with these two products, I don't think I've ever seen my skin look so pretty!

Has anyone got any of these outfits or has anyone tried any of these products? Let me know what you think about them!

Dark Red Lipsticks: MAC, Rimmel, Topshop and Lord & Berry‏

I have mentioned before how my evening out 'look' is dark hair, pale skin and red lips. And when I say red, I mean red. In the daytime I prefer to go for a more natural, subtly enhanced look but when I am going out in the evening, the darker the red lippy, the better with me!

I have scoured the internet for the perfect shade and have spent an unfortunate amount of money on doing so as well. Here are my top 5 dark red lipsticks:

5. 2True Colour Drench Lip Gloss in shade 10 - Okay, so starting off my top 5 list of dark rep lipsticks is a product that is not a lipstick! It is dark red though... This is dark red lipgloss from a budget brand available from Superdrug etc. Despite the usual thought that cheaper brands won't give you the same quality as more expensive brands, this lip gloss looks great and lasts a long time! I would wear this lipgloss over any of the below lipsticks to give them that extra pop. The lipgloss is thick and reminds me of the poisonous apple from Snow White because of its colour and how juicy it makes your lips look.

4. Rimmel Lipstick in shade '128 Starry-eyed' - This lipstick is a little brighter than the others on this list. I am a huge fan of Rimmel lipsticks because their pigmentation always seems to come out great on the skin and they last a long time as well. I usually take this lipstick out with me in my bag anyway just in case I do need to top up, but I rarely ever do. I will wear this lipstick with black cat eyeliner and curled hair for a pretty vintage 1950's look.

3. Topshop Lipstick in shade 'Depth' - Technically a plum purple colour, this lipstick was an impulsive buy as this is my one and only purple lipstick. I was in Oxford Street's Topshop when I was looking for (more) red lipsticks when I came across this pretty colour. I decided I wanted to branch out and try a colour a bit more 'out there'. Again, the pigmentation on this lipstick is great, the colour comes out a very dark purple shade which is great for nights out. Not really a colour for your everyday look, this Topshop lipstick is excellent for a statement look or even for some Halloween costumes, however I like to wear it not in costume as well.

2. MAC Matt Lipstick in shade 'A32  Diva' - My favourite lipstick for general nights out and a less dramatic look. This lipstick has the most beautiful colour that comes out of the little tube and literally stays on all night. Throughout dancing, drinking, laughing and talking, this lipstick doesn't need to be topped up for the whole night. It is literally unsmudgeable. However, no matter how much it doesn't budge in the night, it comes off easily with a makeup wipe when you get home that evening (or the next morning...) MAC is renound for their good quality, good looking make up and this lipstick is no different. An absolute must have in dark lipsticks, I have had countless compliments on this colour.

1. Lord & Berry in shade 'Vogue' - My number one is Lord and Berry's shade 'Vogue'. I had not heard of Lord & Berry before I found this lipstick and boy, am I glad I did find it! My search for dark lipsticks turned into an obsession. I would search every phrase, word or product I could possibly think of to try and find the goldmine of lipsticks, the burgundy jewel. I wanted a lipstick so dark it was basically black, but with that little hint of red that would hide into the depths of the colour. This was it. I spent more than I spend on most clothes on this lipstick and I couldn't be more pleased. This is a colour for a dramatic look, for when you are trying to make a statement. Like my MAC lipstick, the Lord & Berry shade stays on all night and doesn't budge. The little tube has lasted me months now and is still going - you really don't need to apply a lot of this shade to get the look you desire. Two thumbs up from me - couldn't be more happy with it!

What are your favourite lipsticks? Are there any you can recommend me?

Birmingham: Aston University visit

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I will be leaving London to live in Birmingham for four years while I complete my degree. I have firmed my place at Aston university to do a Psychology degree and even thought it sounds really cheesy, I am excited to be able to expand my horizons in a new city and live independently for a few years.

Getting up at the same time I always do to commute to central London for work on the weekdays, I was quite nervous to get ready to go and visit the place I will be living for four years at the end of September.

We arrived at Birmingham around half 10 in the morning and starting exploring Aston's campus immediately. The first place we found was the university's sports centre, which is ironic because I am notorious for being crappy at any sport, hand-eye co-ordination or exercise! The sports centre was great though - they had a huge swimming pool and offered the kind of exercise I think I might enjoy, such as yoga and pilates.

Next, we moved on to exploring the city centre a little more. I was really happy how close my accommodation is to the city centre as it was literally a five minutes walk to the famous 'Bull Ring' shopping centre and surroundings. Which to be honest, might be a little dangerous for me as on the walk down to the main shopping bit, I saw literally all of my favourite places to buy clothes from and there was a huge charity shop on a street corner and anyone who knows me, knows I am a sucker for charity shops. I've got some of my favourite bits and bobs from charity shops!

After a few minutes of wandering around the Bull Ring, we popped into Browns to have a late breakfast. I forgot to take any pictures of our food but it looked incredible. I had scrambled egg on toast with a side order of baked beans and I was so full by the end of it that I literally couldn't sit up straight! I loved the interior of Browns as well, it was so rustic and unique. Old, black and white pictures ran up and down the walls and there was the most incredibly large clock on the wall that looked like it would have been at home in an old ship. The service was very quick and wonderful - the waiters even took a picture of us on my mum's phone for us.

I wanted to explore the markets after breakfast, which no one else really fancied but we decided to go for a little bit. I was so happy we did because the markets were so good. You can buy four circles of Camembert for just £1 and a box of about 100 strawberries for a pound as well. The markets are so cheap which I know will come in handy in my student life! Even the others came around to the markets and bought a few things to take back home.

After exploring the markets, we headed to Selfridges in the main shopping centre. I can tell already that this is going to be dangerous for me living in Birmingham as there is a HUGE Selfridge's with MAC, Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, Bare Minerals, Yves Saint Laurent and so many more incredible stalls. I think I know where where most of my student money will be going...

Also, on the ground floor of Selfridges, the whole floor is filled with amazing sweets and chocolate etc. There was pieces of art made out of Jelly Babies and I was amazed at how large everything was.

On the walk back up to the car, we saw some beautiful old buildings which was great because history interests me very much and I can't wait to learn more about where I will be living soon.

I have to admit, when I first got to Birmingham, I did freak out a little bit. I just couldn't comprehend in my own head that I wouldn't be living at home with my mum and sister anymore and I would be moving to a city I literally just stepped into for the first time in my life. I was wandering around with my boyfriend, just looking at every shop, every street name, every person that walked by, thinking whether the shop would be a local favourite of mine soon or whether a person would become a close friend in a few months. I was really thinking too much into the move and starting to scare myself. However, the breakfast at Browns really helped to calm me down and stop me thinking so quickly. I became a lot more positive after eating and ended up really enjoying my day out in Birmingham, and I can even say now that I can really see myself being happy at the university and I am excited to start now as well!

Does anyone reading this live in Birmingham, or just know the city? Is there any places you would recommend me?
